SAVWIPL’s association with Lila Poonawalla Foundation dates to 2015 when the company first started supporting the institution in their initiative of enabling academically bright and financially deserving girls pursue engineering degree. The company has sponsored the education of 80 girls in the last five years (10 in 2015, 10 in 2016 and 20 in 2017, 40 in 2019) and has made an investment of INR 1.62 crore towards this cause. SAVWIPL is happy to extend this support further and commit another INR 84 lakhs spread over the tenure of next four years.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India helped set up a digital printing press in Snehalaya- Institute for Children with Cerebral Palsy and Multiple Disabilities at Wagholi, Pune. Necessary equipments that include digital color printer, lamination machine, furniture, licensed software for graphic designing have been provided by the company.
The company’s in-house expertise on equipment procurement and interior design was tapped in for the project. Snehalaya Digi Prints, Wagholi, Pune was inaugurated on 16th August 2019.
SAVW donated a new modern wielding simulator – Soldamatic to Pimpri-Chinchwad ITI, Pune to upgrade and strengthen their training infrastructure in January 2019.
SAVW had committed INR 2 crore to ITI, Pimpri-Chichwad for a period of five years which was to be invested in a phased manner towards development of the overall facility at the ITI. So far more than INR 80 lakh had been spent towards teaching aids, faculty and staff development, infrastructure development and training of students. The company’s latest investment in the overall upgrading of the institute has been in the new Soldamatic welding simulator amounting to over INR 16 lakh.
Recognising the role school buildings can play in promoting a conducive learning environment, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India constructed a new building for the primary school in Phadke-Wasti, Nighoje, Chakan, Pune. The building was constructed to help provide excellent education facilities to growing communities in the emerging industrial zone of Chakan, Pune. Developed solely by Skoda Auto Volkswagen India as part of their larger CSR initiative towards education and skill development, the school can cater up to 120 students every year.
One year after its inauguration the primary school building received ‘Gold Certification’ by the Indian Green Building Council. Over the last one-year the school has conducted multiple engagement activities within the school like celebrating festivals wherein environmentally friendly practices were inculcated in the children.
There are several million children in the country who do not have access to computers and may never learn to use one unless an effort is made to bridge the digital divide. This digital divide that can keep children away from opportunities to better their lives has to be reduced swiftly because many jobs require computer literacy and welfare schemes for the poor are now online.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has recently embarked on installing computer labs in low income schools in Pune in association with Computer Shiksha, an NGO that is working on bridging the digital divide since 2012, Through this project, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India aims to make computers and required training on hardware and software available in about 45 schools in the city. Between September 2019 and December 2019, the computer labs were installed in 28 schools reaching about 14000 students.
The students are offered 3 different levels of computer courses (Basic, Basic Plus and Advanced) wherein they are trained on using the internet, email, impress, writer. The schools have access to Computer Shiksha helpline for any queries on training materials or hardware/operating system issues. In addition, Computer Shiksha offers lifetime mainteanance for all software and hardware being used by the schools.
